Cladding remediation 2023-24

Cladding remediation 2023-24

Our cladding remediation efforts this year see our management oversee £18 million cladding remediation projects.

The UK government committed £5.1 billion to address unsafe cladding on residential buildings, prioritizing high rise buildings between 11 and 18 meters. The cladding safety scheme and building safety fund have been central to the remediation efforts. These programs provide a clear pathway for necessary safety improvements. Further to this, 55 developers signed remediation contracts to repair fire safety defects at an estimated cost of £3 billion. The responsible actors scheme monitors these repairs ensuring developers follow through with their commitments.

As part of an ongoing scheme in line with government guidelines to ensure new building safety standards. Our cladding remediation projects represent vital investment and positive steps forward in prioritizing the safety of housing and quality of life. It’s estimated in the last 2 years, 2000 people will be positively impacted by the upgrades and will provide a solid technical blueprint for Avendale to implement for upcoming projects over the next 12 months.

The new strategy removes all old EPS insulation and rail system, followed by new direct fix fire rated insulation before receiving mesh and render finish.

Stephen Conn, Avendale PR, said: A relatively simple technical activity, but the fact the work in many cases in conducted on people homes must not be overlooked. We have worked hard over the last 24 months to maintain a sense of compassion and understanding to those effected by the work.

A separate initiative in 2024 has seen Avendale team up with Wow Community, a community-based startup business that provides local people the opportunity to engage in workshop and discussions that affect those around them. More than 200 people have attended across London and the South on a number of construction based Issues, discussions and knowledge based workshops. The planned expansion of such workshops represents positive steps forward for Avendale as project demands intensify and the requirement for us to practice ever increasing considerate construction methods is pushed to the forefront.

Driving carbon emission down

We implement a green construction policy on all cladding remediation projects, endeavouring to look at the provenance and sustainability of materials as well as effective waste management/ recycling. Our goal is to align the new direction of residential fire safety with a forward thinking internal environmental policy that exceeds our ISO 14001 certification.
